Airdrieonians No.2 Callum Fordyce: We still need two or three signings, but we're not expecting them today

Airdrieonians assistant boss Callum Fordyce says the Diamonds aren't expecting a busy deadline day, but hopes to tie down 'two or three' new faces before the loan window for lower leagues closes at the end of September.

The player/coach has poured cold water over hopes the New Broomfield faithful had of some deadline day excitement, with the club and gaffer Rhys McCabe "not expecting" to do any incoming transfer business before midnight.

The League One leaders have enjoyed a strong start to the season and believe there is no rush to add to their squad at this time.

Fordyce told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "Everybody will be looking, but there is nobody in particular I can say we are going for right now.

"We still need to add two or three, but we are trying to get the right players.

"It's not for lack of trying at times.

"For the lower league teams like ourselves, we are never going to go and buy somebody.

"We've still got the loan window open after today so there will still be agents going about from bigger teams where, once teams have their budget and squad sorted, then some players become available because they are no longer in the plans.

"We are not panicking.

"We've got boys coming back from injury with Dean McMaster coming in and that will strengthen us right away.

"If you look at the bench on Saturday there, we had a strong bench with people who can come on and change the game.

"There's some we might want to pursue but it depends on whether they will be available or not.

"I wouldn't say we are expecting to do something today, but by the end of the loan window I'm hoping we will have a couple in.

"There's nothing massive happening today at the moment, but if things become available with players, it's something we would pursue."

Airdrie have already made nine summer signings since McCabe took the reins from Ian Murray.

Defender Euan Deveney and midfielder Justin Devenny both joined from Kilmarnock, goalkeeper Josh Rae arrived from Queen of the South along with fellow shot-stoppers David Hutton from Alloa and Murray Johnston from Hibs. Defender Cammy Ballantyne moved from Montrose, midfielder Ben Wylie joined on loan from Celtic B, while StMirren loan duo Dean McMaster, a midfielder, and Lewis Jamieson, a striker, also signed up.
