Airdrie star hopes form dip is a 'blip' as they bid to get back on track

Craig Watson hopes Airdrie can look back on their current form as a ‘blip’ at the end of the season as they aim to bag their first win in six games when they travel to FC Edinburgh on Saturday.

And the experienced defender admits they have a point to prove in the capital, following a 6-0 humbling at home on September 3.

The Diamonds fell down to sixth in League One with a 2-0 defeat at Alloa on Saturday, with goals from Luke Donnelly and Ross MacIver seeing the Wasps leap-frog their visitors into fifth.

Watson admits confidence has taken a dent, but says Rhys McCabe’s side are working hard to get back on track.

He said: “We had such a good start to the season, so it’s really disappointing, but hopefully it’s just a wee minor blip that we’ll look back on at the end of the season, having turned it around.

“We want to get back up the table, and other teams are dropping points as well. Dunfermline are doing well at the top, but they’ve had a draw or two and I think it was a close one at the weekend, so it shows you that everyone can be beat, or can drop points in the league.

“It’s just so important to pick them up when you can. Hopefully we’ll tighten up at the back and be more confident, because I think that’s something that has taken a knock.”

On Saturday’s clash, Watson said: “There is a point to prove, and we’ll have that extra wee bit of grit, but we’ve just got to treat it like any other game.

“Just now it’s vitally important that we get maximum points.”

• Meanwhile, Airdrie’s League One clash away to Montrose on Christmas Eve has been brought forward to 7.45pm on Friday, December 23 at the request of both clubs.
