Kyle MacDonald admits he finds the Championship play-offs hard to call - as victory for the Diamonds could relegate his parent club.
The midfielder returned to Lanarkshire in January on loan from Dunfermline after leaving last year for East End Park.
Both clubs now find themselves fighting for a place in next season's second tier along with Montrose and Queen's Park.
The latter held Dunfermline to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night at Firhill and Airdrie suffered a 1-0 loss at Links Park ahead of their Penny Cars Stadium return leg on Saturday.
A situation could arise that sees MacDonald unable to contest the final with both his loan and permanent contract clubs involved.
But he's just hoping both make it to that stage first: "I've thought about it as it is a strange one. I want Airdrie to go up but I am also contracted to Dunfermline at this moment in time.
"It's a tough one but I can't let myself think about that too much. All I can do is play as well as I can for Airdrie and hopefully I can help get them to the final.
"If I can't play, I'll be able to sit back and see how it unfolds. Hopefully we get to that stage as Montrose are a tough team and showed that on Wednesday."
The 22-year-old arrived for his post-match press duties with an ice pack on his ankle after a heavy blow in a hard-fought first leg.
He hopes the swelling goes down and in its place returns the Diamonds form that saw them end League One in second, having gone 20 third tier matches unbeaten.
MacDonald added: "It's swollen up a bit but I'll need to see how it is. I was able to play on and hopefully I will be fine for Saturday.
"I might only have one game at Airdrie, so I am desperate to play it.
"It's not the result we were looking for but it's not an impossible situation. We are still very much in the tie and hopefully we can score a few more on Saturday."
