Airdrie karate kids in the medals at Children's Championships in Penrith

Sixteen karate kids were in the medals at the Children’s Championships in Penrith last month.

Airdrie-based Lanarkshire Karate Academy sent their youngsters down south to face some of the best comeptitors from across the country, and they returned home with a fantastic medal haul.

Twelve of the group claimed gold on the day and Kian McGeachy was on top form, taking three golds and one silver.

The results in full were as follows:

Kian McGeachy – three gold, one silver; Sebastian Magilton – two gold, one bronze; Heather Mackay – two gold, one silver; Ziva Alexander– two gold, one bronze; Keir McGeachy – two gold; Dominic Griniuk – one gold, one silver, one bronze; Emmie McEwan – one gold, two bronze; Jack Hunter – one gold, one bronze; Lewis Ferguson – one gold, one bronze; Harrison Carty – one gold, two silver; Ayla Armstrong – one gold; Keir McDonald – one gold.

Daniel McPake – one silver; Darcy Ames – one silver.

Amelia Harvie – one bronze; Luke Ryder – one bronze.

Proud sensei, Chantelle Allan, said: “Congratulations to the medallists and to all competitors for taking part, especially all our little first timers.

“Special mention to Kian and Sebastian. Their Kumite was really clean. We had lots of nice comments from other coaches and judges.”
