Airdrie golfers bag 'miracle' double hole-in-one feat during club's centenary year

An Airdrie golfing duo have scored an incredible 'miracle' double hole-in-one feat on the same green at Easter Moffat Golf Club in what was a 67 million-to-one shot.

Past captain Kenny Neil, 70, says the feat is all the more special because Easter Moffat is celebrating its centenary year.

Kenny and Brian Lees were behind in the scores during a four-ball amongst friends on Thursday when they both aced the 15th.

It's Kenny's second hole-in-one, but Brian's first, and they've been told that the chances of them both achieving such a feat at the same time are 67 million to one.

And it was nearly an unbelievable treble, as their friend Bobby Neil had a near-miss just behind them.

Kenny, from Airdrie, said: "We were out on a four-ball, just amongst friends, between myself and Brian Lees, and two other mates.

"We came up to the 15th hole, we were one down, and I said to Brian 'we'll need to try harder, here'.

"Brian tees off first, holed it, and we were all jumping for joy.

"I played the next shot and thought 'that's going to be close, too' and sure enough it went in, so we were all jumping for joy again, it was brilliant.

Kenny says it was his second hole in one, and Brian's first (Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser)

"I couldn't believe it, the two of us got a hole-in-one.

"It was nearly a treble, because my mate who was up behind us, Bobby Neil, played it and his ball ran round the hole and just sat outside it."

While it wasn't an especially expensive tradition of buying everybody in the clubhouse a round of drinks, kind-hearted Kenny went back up today with a bottle of whisky to share amongst golfers.

"I bought everyone in the clubhouse a drink, but there weren't too many in, to be honest, and a lot were driving," he said.

"But I went back up today with a nice bottle of whisky and put it on the bar, there, just to celebrate it again.

"It's great, because I'm a past captain at the club in 2001, and it's our centenary year so that makes it that wee bit special for us.

"I had one three years ago, August 27 at the 18th, and that was my first in 40 years. I never believed I'd get another one, ever.

"It's a miracle. One of the guys up at the club said the odds were 67 million to one, so it's something else.

"I'm going to buy two lottery tickets today, and see how that goes!"
