Lewis Jamieson says Airdrie had to roll up their sleeves to beat Clyde 1-0, but created a little bit of magic to earn the three points.
Cammy Ballantyne played a one-two with Charlie Telfer before being brought down in the box, earning the Diamonds a 78th-minute penalty in what looked like being a stalemate at New Douglas Park.
Jamieson stepped up and though his penalty was parried by Neil Parry, he tucked in the rebound for his fifth goal in three games.
That kept Airdrie sixth in League One, and Clyde second bottom of the table, on a run of 11 straight league defeats.
The on-loan St Mirren striker said: “It’s not always going to be pretty football – as much as we would like it to be – but we just need to turn up and roll our sleeves up.
“I thought we did that well, and got the three points up the road.
“We had chances. It was difficult to break Clyde down.
“We knew, coming into the game, that they weren’t going to try and come out and play much, that they would really try and defend their goal as much as they could.
“We had to create a wee bit of magic from all of us, thankfully we got a few chances, and then the penalty came along.”
Jamieson saw his effort blocked by experienced keeper Parry, but was alert enough to flick it into the bottom right corner with the outside of his foot.
He said: “I was a wee bit hesitant, with the keeper saving it, but thankfully it rebounded and I got the goal.
“As long as it goes in the back of the net I don’t care how it goes in, as long as it’s in the net and we get three points.”
Jamieson netted in the 3-1 defeat at FC Edinburgh, then bagged a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Montrose last weekend, with Craig Watson also on the score-sheet.
He says it was important not just to build on Airdrie’s first league win in six attempts, but to take it into next weekend’s visit by Peterhead as well.
He said: “It was important to build on last week’s win, now it’s all about momentum and taking it into next week.
“We take it game by game, and we go for another three points.
“You never get an easy game. It’s probably tougher next week, because teams don’t come out and play against us, so Peterhead are more likely to sit in, a bit similar to today.
“We just need to go again, prepare properly through the week, go into Saturday and hopefully get the three points.”
