Two people have died following a mid-air collision involving two planes at Marana Regional Airport in Arizona on Wednesday morning, according to Marana Police.

Authorities confirmed that both privately-owned aircraft were occupied at the time of the crash. Initially, police reported one fatality, but an update later confirmed that two people had died, KGUN reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident.

Viewer-submitted photos from the scene showed smoke rising near the airport. Further details on the cause of the crash and the identities of those involved have not yet been released.

This is a developing story.
