An Airbnb holiday cottage came with an explosive extra - a WWII bomb in the garden.
Owner Dave Dew was shell-shocked when the remains of military ordnance turned up in the garden on his Airbnb rental.
The cottage - once a blacksmiths - often turns up scrap metal but Dave was amazed at his latest find in the soil.
Dave, 54, came across the device on Easter Sunday while digging a trench to lay concrete for a summerhouse.
His spade scraped something metallic between old tree stumps - and he called in the police after digging it up.
He sent a picture passed to the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit - better known as the bomb squad.
It dispatched two soldiers from Chester 60 miles to his cottage of Trefriw, North Wales.
“After looking at it, they asked me if I wanted the good news or the bad news first,” said Dave.
“The good news was that it hadn’t gone off, the bad was that it was still live.
"But was not thought to be life-threatening, which is why no evacuation was ordered.”
He and his wife Sara rent out a room to holidaymakers on Airbnb - and he was relieved no guest stumbled upon it.
The device was moved to a field by the village rugby club before being destroyed in a controlled explosion.
During World War II, an aluminium works at nearby Dolgarrog was said to have been subject to a failed bombing attack by the Luftwaffe.
Dave said: “If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t have touched it. But I genuinely thought it was nothing.
"Had gone off, I’m glad I wasn’t near it – it might have caused me some discomfort!”
A North Wales police spokesperson said: "Officers attended an address in Trefriw following the discovery of a suspected unexploded ordnance device.
"This device was located in the property’s garden by the homeowner.
"Officers attended the address along with members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit
"The device was securely contained and transferred to a safe, non-residential location for overnight monitoring. A secure detonation was conducted by the EODU."
