Airbnb guests leave host with huge £630 bill after turning on all taps and gas

A pair of Airbnb guests took costly revenge on a host who refused to refund them when they wanted to leave early.

The nightmare couple had booked the villa in South Korea's capital Seoul for 25 days but wanted to quit after saying it was too far away from the centre.

But when the owner turned down a refund request they got their revenge by leaving after turning on all the taps, lights and gas appliances.

The house used so much fuel that the gas company contacted the owner because they thought he had a leak, reports local media.

The couple - on holiday from China - even returned from their new holiday home every three days to check everything was still running.

The host - named as Mr Lee in local media - says he was left with a utility bill for £630 after the couple fled back home.

He told local media he was horrified that they had wasted more than 120 tonnes of water during the stay.

But when he contacted Airbnb's customer services, he was told they would not help.

They told him to take it up with the guests - who by then were already back in China and could not be contacted.

Earlier this month, another host was sent a chilling warning by a guest at his property who claimed the house was haunted.

The guest reportedly saw a ghost for "10 full minutes".

The host, named Nalin Jha, took to a Facebook group for professional hosts to share the messages his guest had sent him, where he was asked if "something bad" had ever happened in the apartment he was staying in.

When Nalin - who has been hosting his property on Airbnb for 12 years - questioned the man on what he meant, he was stunned to find out that the guest claimed to have seen a ghost standing in front of him.

In the messages, which were shared on a group named Airbnb - VRBO - Booking.com | Professional Hosts, the guest first texted Nalin to ask: "My room [on the] first floor. Something bad happened there?"

And a confused Nalin replied: "Hi, yes your apartment is [on the] first floor. What happened?"

But the host wasn't prepared for the guest's answer, as he wrote back: "I saw a ghost for ten full minutes. At 1 am."

"Sorry? Ghost?", Nalin typed, "Where? Let me come and meet you. Are you in the apartment?"

The screenshot Nalin shared to the Facebook group then cuts off so it is unclear what the conclusion of the ghost story was, but the host captioned the image: "After hosting for 12 years on Airbnb and hosting around 10k guests, I thought I have seen it all. But well, I was wrong."

Fellow hosts in the group were left in stitches by Nalin's post, with many joking he could now up his prices by claiming the apartment is a "haunted attraction".
