Air ambulance lands as police cordon off street amid reports of person seriously injured

An air ambulance landed as police blocked off a street in Hyde on Sunday (April 23) amid reports of a person being seriously injured.

Police confirmed they were called to reports of a 'domestic disturbance' on Thorsby Avenue, at around 3pm. A number of police vehicles were pictured at the scene with an air ambulance also landing nearby on a sports pitch off Grange Road North.

A number of witnesses told the Manchester Evening News they heard a woman and a man 'shouting' at each other before emergency services were called out to the scene.

One resident reported that they saw an injured person on a stretcher being wheeled into the back of an ambulance at the scene. The Manchester Evening News understands the injuries sustained are classed as being serious.

Asking to remain anonymous, one person said: "I just looked outside to see the street being taped off and the ambulance outside. The street is still completely blocked off with two police vans and an ambulance still here."

Another, who contacted the M.E.N said: "I was in the bath when I heard shouting. It was a male and female shouting at each other.

"The road is closed off and my children were due home but they have not been allowed as the street is still closed off."

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed by Greater Manchester Police however there is no wider threat to those in the area.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called to Thorsby Avenue in Hyde, Tameside at around 3pm today (Sunday 23 April 2023) to a report of a domestic disturbance. A scene is still in place whilst officers continue to conduct enquiries with no wider threat to the public or local area."
