Air ambulance lands after serious crash shuts road with woman rushed to hospital

A woman was rushed to hospital after a crash between a motorbike and a car in Oldham.

The smash happened at the junction of Oldham Road and Mossley Road in the Grasscroft area at around 10.20am today (Thursday). Police cordoned off a stretch of the road near to The Farrars Arms pub after the incident, as paramedics were also scrambled.

The air ambulance landed nearby but the woman was taken to hospital by a road ambulance, a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said. She suffered serious leg injuries.

Police said she was a pillion passenger on the motorbike. The driver of the car involved in the crash remained on the scene.

A stretch of Oldham Road, between Parkfield Road and Oaklands Road, remains taped off this afternoon. Investigations are ongoing within the police cordon.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Mossley Road, Oldham, to reports of a collision between a car and a motorbike at about 10:20am today (23 March 2023). A woman, believed to be the pillion passenger on the motorbike, has been taken to hospital with leg injuries.

"There are no reports of any other injuries and the car driver remained at the scene. This is an ongoing incident and there are road closures in place."
