Air ambulance lands after man on bike hit by car

An air ambulance landed after a man on a bike was hit by a car.

Police were called to Heygarth Road in Eastham today at around 11.20am to reports of a crash. This involved a man on a bike and a blue Seat car.

A cordon was in place on Heygarth Road, past Heygarth Primary School, and a separate cordon on Hillary Road. Eyewitnesses said an air ambulance landed nearby, with two ambulances and four police cars.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said the cyclist was taken to hospital and the driver remained at the scene. The extent of his injuries are unclear.

Heygarth Road and Hillary Road was closed while officers continued their enquiries and has since been reopened.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Just after 11.20am this morning (Tuesday, July 11) we received a report of a collision involving a male cyclist and a blue Seat on Heygarth Road in Eastham. The cyclist was taken to hospital for treatment.

"The driver remained at the scene. Heygarth Road and Hilary Road was closed whilst officers continued their enquiries and has since been reopened."
