Paramedics and a helicopter were called to a Northumberland firing range for a medical incident.

The Great North Air Ambulance and the North East Ambulance Service were called to Otterburn Training Area on Tuesday.

The training area is owned by the Military of Defence (MoD) and is used for training thousands of soldiers each year. It is the UK's largest firing range.

A spokesman for the MOD said: "Emergency services were called to Otterburn Training Area on Tuesday, March 28 following a medical incident."

It is understood the incident was non-life-threatening.

The Otterburn Training Area was set up by former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and has been used for military training since 1911.

The camp - one of the largest military bases in Britain - is surrounded by 60,000 acres of wild countryside.
