An air ambulance made a dramatic landing in Tyneside after a man was left injured after being reportedly stabbed.
Residents were stunned to see the chopper land in a field near Jervis Street at lunchtime after being called to assist police and ambulance services on the ground.
One man was left with an injury to his leg which Northumbria Police said was consistent with having been caused by a bladed article, with officers later launching an investigation to determine exactly what happened.
“At 12.35pm today (Thursday) we received a report of an assault in the Jervis Street area of Hebburn,” said a spokesman for the force.
“Emergency services attended the scene and found a man who had sustained a minor leg injury consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. He received treatment at the scene.
“An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to trace those involved. Officers believe all parties were known to each other. An increased police presence remains in the area as officers carry out enquiries.”
Meanwhile, North East Ambulance Service confirmed it sent two Hazardous Area Response Teams and one emergency ambulance to the scene, and was supported by the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police via its website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20230112-0401.
