Air ambulance called as motorbike rider crashes outside Heinz factory

An air ambulance was called after a motorbike rider crashed outside the Heinz factory.

Emergency services rushed to Spring Road in Wigan at around 2.50pm on Wednesday, May 25, following reports of a crash. Once at the scene officers found a motorbike had crashed just outside the Heinz factory.

It is understood the rider was seriously injured in the crash and no other vehicles were involved. Greater Manchester Police along with the North West Ambulance Service, fire service and an air ambulance were all called to the scene, MEN reports.

Exact details were not revealed, but Greater Manchester Police have said initial enquiries were continuing. The road remains closed by police for accident investigation work and according to reports.

No age or sex for the motorcyclist was revealed as yet by police.

In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called shortly before 2.50pm to a report of a serious collision involving a motorbike on Spring Road, Orrell. Emergency services are at the scene and road closures are in place as our response – and initial enquiries – continue.

"Anyone with information should contact us on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 1724 of 25/05/2022. Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

No further information has been released and there's been no further update on the rider's condition in hospital.
