All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen’s Bholakpur corporator Mohammed Ghousuddin (25) was arrested by the Musheerabad police on Wednesday for allegedly obstructing policemen from performing their duties.
According to Inspector E. Jahangeer Yadav, around 2.15 a.m. on Tuesday, when the constables on patrol were ensuring the closure of shops in the area, Ghousuddin tried to stop and threatened them.
The video of the corporator abusing and threatening the policemen went viral on social media and even IT and Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao reacted to the video and requested DGP M. Mahender Reddy to take stern action against the “individuals who obstructed police officers on duty.”
“No such nonsense should be tolerated in Telangana irrespective of political affiliations,” Mr. Rao tweeted.
Later, a case under Sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the corporator and he was arrested on Tuesday night. A local court remanded Ghousuddin to judicial custody till April 20.
