Aiden McGeady has finalised his return to Scottish football after signing a one-year deal at Hibs.
The former Celtic winger becomes Lee Johnson ’s eighth summer recruit but the biggest name so far as the new boss puts his stamp on the Easter Road squad. McGeady passed a medical at East Mains and put pen to paper on a deal which will run until next summer.
And Johnson hopes the 93-times capped former Ireland international can produce the magic to unlock defences and get supporters off their seats as he bids to get the club back in about the European spots.
McGeady is teaming up again with his former boss after his contract ran out at Sunderland and having previously admitted he played some of his best football under Johnson at the Stadium of Light.
Johnson said: “We are delighted to bring Aiden to Hibernian FC.
"He will bring skill, experience and gravitas to our team. Aiden is a top player, has had a fantastic career to date and we aim to extend and accentuate his abilities within the blend of our new-look squad.
“We will also look to utilise Aiden’s fantastic leadership qualities to help guide and get the best out of our young forward players.”
As well as the ability to create in the final third and a goal threat - he has scored 101 times in his career including five for Ireland - the 36-year-old adds vital experience to a young Hibs squad after six years with Celtic, four years in Russia with Spartak Moscow, three years at Everton and the last five years at Sunderland.
Hibs head of recruitment, Ian Gordon added: “Aiden will bring an excellent blend of experience and top-class quality to our side.
"He has played at the very top level during his career and will help raise our standards going forward.”
The winger joins former Celtic team mate David Marshall, Nohan Kenneh, Momodou Bojang, Rocky Bushiri, Lewis Miller, Jair Tavares and Kyle McClelland in moving to Easter Road this summer and Johnson’s summer spree isn’t over yet with another striker understood to be on the radar.
