Aiden McGeady 'closing in' on Hibs transfer as Lee Johnson gets his man

Aiden McGeady 'closing in' on Hibs transfer as Lee Johnson gets his man

HIBS are closing in on the signing of Aiden McGeady, according to a report.

The winger looks set to team up with former manager Lee Johnson at Easter Road, having previously worked together at Sunderland.

The Daily Record say an agreement between the player and the club is close to completion.

And their report states that he could even jet off with the rest of the squad to Portugal at the end of the month for their club's pre-season camp.

Johnson is said to be very keen to get the 36-year-old winger on board to help bolster his attacking options.

The new boss admitted his interest in the veteran who was a regular under his charge at Sunderland.

He told Sky Sports: “I have got a strong relationship with Aiden, he is a fantastic player with unbelievable feet. He gets to the corner of the box then often there’s an assist or a shot at goal.

“He is 36 so whether it’s us or anyone else he has nothing to prove but a lot to prove as well.

“He is a maverick, he is a challenging but inspiring character to have in your squad and whoever gets Aiden McGeady for a year or two will have an exceptional player and person."

However, while McGeady will be coming in, Matt Macey and Harry Clarke will be leaving.

Macey is on the verge of completing a move to Luton Town, while Clarke has been recalled by Arsenal ahead of the final 12-months of his loan deal in Leith and is set to join Stoke City.
