Ahmedabad: He was missing from roster for 16 years!

AHMEDABAD: An employee was on the civic body’s payroll for 16 years, or 5,950 days, till the municipal authorities realized that this sanitation worker was missing from its roster, which is used to mark attendance at work.

An assistant commissioner was found to have submitted a fake BCom degree and is now facing departmental action and could be demoted. Another municipal employee changed his father’s name in his ration card to secure a permanent job with the solid waste management department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

An weighbridge worker was missing for seven years till a vigilance department inquiry found this out.

These were among 19 individuals who were allegedly found guilty for dereliction of duty by the vigilance department.

“A senior health officer, who was found guilty of sexual harassment, is also in line for departmental action. We also have a case of a Class 2 officer from the professional tax department, who posed as a crime branch cop and harassed a street vendor in August last year. Navrangpura police had arrested him and two of his friends, who were part of the crime,” said a senior AMC vigilance officer.
