Ahmed Kendouci in transfer 'panic' as Rangers linked playmaker rated 'the best player in Algeria'

Ahmed Kendouci has been rated as "the best player in Algeria" as league leaders CR Belouizdad enter the race for the Rangers linked star.

Reports in Kendouci's homeland have linked both the Ibrox side and rivals Celtic and while interest from Parkhead seems to have cooled since they were first linked last January, Football Scotland reported earlier in December that Rangers had 'made contact' with ES Setif over a potential deal.

Kendouci's form this season has been explosive with eight goals in 11 appearances and it seems he's gaining flattering glances at home and abroad. Belouizdad, who lead the Algerian league after 14 matches, are also keen on signing him, as confirmed by club chairman Mohamed Benelhadj who reckons there isn't a better player in the country. He said: “Kendouci is a player who interests us a lot. He is currently the best player in the league. At the CRB, we want the best."

Competition in Algeria say that Kendouci's form has sparked a "panic" among interested clubs with a list of suitors falling over themselves to land the 23-year-old. The initial report citing Rangers' interest had claimed clubs from across Europe were in the running including an unnamed side in Croatia.

Kendouci emerged as a target one week into December, with Michael Beale in the very early days of his tenure. It was reported the Ibrox side were keen on an initial six-month loan deal before making a decision although it's understood Setif would be more interested in immediately cashing in.
