Agnipath scheme protest: Security beefed up at railway stations in Vijayawada, says CP Kanthi Rana Tata

VIJAYAWADA: The security arrangements at the railway stations in Vijayawada have been beefed up in the wake of protests against the Agnipath scheme by the Army aspirants.

Commissioner of police, Kanthi Rana Tata inspected the security arrangements at the railway stations on Saturday morning and gave appropriate instructions to the police personnel.

CP Tata said that the Army had set up strong security forces in Vijayawada, and additional forces were deployed along with GRP, RPF, and civil police personnel. The CP said the suspects were arrested along with the rowdy sheeters. He appealed the youth not to commit violence.

The CP added that if the railway assets were vandalized, the accused would have to face non-bailable cases against them and imprisonment of up to seven years. He said the future of the Army aspirants who commit violence will be ruined.

He further said that he had spoken to the defence institutions in Vijayawada and appropriate orders had been issued. Surveillance has also been stepped up on social media.

"We are appealing that no one should go towards violence", said the CP.
