'Agent Jorginho!' - Chelsea fans poke fun at Arsenal as Rio Ferdinand transfer claim backfires

Chelsea supporters have poked fun at Arsenal fans on social media after Everton ended the Gunners' unbeaten streak in the Premier League. James Tarkowski handed the Toffees the lead after quarter of an hour into the second-half at Goodison Park — just seconds after Thomas Partey was replaced by Jorginho.

And, Blues fans pounced on the chance to, in jest, thank the Italy international for his role in Sean Dyche's side clinching a lead. While Jorginho had no significant influence on Tarkowski leaping above his marker, Martin Odegaard, and nodding the ball past Aaron Ramsdale, he was quickly titled 'agent Jorginho' by supporters online.

There is a running joke among Chelsea fans that players who are at the end of their career at Stamford Bridge end up joining the north Londoners, such as Petr Cech, Willian and David Luiz, and they are then, in jest, titled labelled as 'undercover agents' plotting against Arsenal.

Of course, this is not the case but simply a joke shared among Chelsea supporters. With plenty of Blues fans poking fun at their rivals on social media, football.london has taken a look at some of the best reaction to Jorginho's Arsenal debut.

With a saluting emoji, @MattDebonoAC tweeted: "Got to respect Jorginho’s efforts as Arsenal fall to defeat. Agent Jorgi."

@CarefreeLewisG tweeted: "Jorginho on and Arsenal go 1-0 down. thats my agent man."

@_AsiwajuLerry tweeted: "Jorginho enter field, Everton score. Thank you Agent Jorginho!"

@MaximilianCFC tweeted: "Agent Jorginho perhaps we judged you wrong, proper chels."

@Ziyechman tweeted: "I told you that Jorginho is the Chelsea secret agent, another master class from Todd Boehly."

With Jorginho facing the music on Twitter, Rio Ferdinand's claim before Arsenal's clash with Everton appears to have already backfired. Speaking on BT Sport, the former Manchester United defender claimed that the Italian was a 'fantastic signing'.

"I think it [Jorginho signing] is a fantastic signing," Ferdinand said. "Experience, somebody who knows his way around the Premier League so he doesn’t have to adjust to a new culture coming in from a foreign country at all.

"Knows how to win at different levels, and he’s a different kind of player to Partey but he understands that role, and a big, big part of it is intelligence. You can tell by the way he plays football he’s an intelligent footballer, and you need to be an intelligent football player to play in a system that Arteta puts together, they had a really good window."
