Labor has raised questions about a number of investments disclosed by Peter Dutton between October 2008 and March 2009 – including on the day before the Rudd government announced a $4bn package to save banks from the global financial crisis.
A spokesperson for the opposition leader said Dutton had no access to sensitive information on the matter and was not privy to a government briefing on the GFC, going on to accuse Labor’s “dirt unit” of “obsessing about Peter Dutton”.
The matter bubbled up during Senate estimates, where Liberal senators Jane Hume and James McGrath accused Katy Gallagher of being “grubby” and “throwing mud” in a fiery hearing that was temporarily suspended to restore order.
