Thanks to social media, it seems we have all attended Sonam Kapoor’s wedding. We were there at her all-white sangeet as she and groom Anand Ahuja danced to Veere Di Wedding’s Tareefan. We cheered loudly as half a dozen Bollywood hunks asked a very embarrassed Sonam, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. We have overdosed so much on #SonamKiShaadi that now when Veere Di Wedding – starring Sonam, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shikha Talsania and Swara Bhasker – released its new song, Bhangra Ta Sajda, we ended up comparing. We compared the film’s wedding song with the real-life celebrations and found the former wanting.
We are not saying it is a fair comparison but can you help it when the wedding videos on social media have been your guilty pleasure for the last three days?
On a serious note though, the song is a retread of traditional ‘boliyaan’ at a Punjabi wedding and see the film’s leads dancing and reminiscing about their school days. Given it is a wedding song; it has the entire family joining in. Colourful and uninhibited, it gives the vibes that Veere Di Wedding team is trying to keep at bay -- that of a chick flick. And we mean it in the most positive way.
The song features the voices of Neha Kakkar, Romy, Surya Raghunathan and Shashwat Sachdev. The song has also been composed by Sachdev. The film has been produced by Shobha Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor and Nikhil Dwivedi. Veere Di Wedding, directed by Shashanka Ghosh, releases on June 1.
