As of Saturday, the Jacksonville Jaguars have completed 10 virtual head coaching interviews for their vacancy.
So, what’s next in this process for them?
The Jaguars, along with all the other NFL teams who are searching for a head coach, can now begin holding in-person interviews for the role on Monday, January 20th, as long as the candidates are no longer coaching teams who are still in the playoffs.
During the first round of interviews, all of the interviews held were done virtually, except for Robert Saleh, who is not affiliated with an NFL team after being fired earlier in the year by the Jets.
After an initial round of interviews, the Jaguars will whittle their list of coaching candidates from 10 to a select few. Based on the reports that are out there, it sounds like Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, and Liam Coen will be among those still in the running.
However, if the Jaguars have interest in Bills’ offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator Todd Monken, or Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, they won’t be able to interview any of those candidates in person until after the AFC and NFC Championship Games next week with those teams still in the running as this is this post is being written.
If the Ravens (Monken), Eagles (Moore), or Bills (Brady) lose on Sunday afternoon, then the Jaguars can interview those coordinators in person this week as well.
Two of the lead head coaching candidates are Johnson and Glenn, and not only for the Jaguars for several NFL teams. So with the Detroit Lions now eliminated from playoff contention, it’s quite possible the coaching carousel begins to speed up this week because once Johnson and Glenn find new homes, everyone else will likely fall into place rather quickly after that.
Expect the second round of in-person interviews to begin early in the upcoming week for the Jaguars.
