After Being Disqualified from Miss Universe, Italy Mora Loses Title of Miss Panama

In Spanish

The Miss Panama Organization has stripped Italy Mora of her title after she was expelled from Miss Universe during the first weekend of November. Although the organization had initially stated that the 19-year-old model would retain her title, something has obviously prompted a change in their stance.

The wording of the announcement suggests that certain rumors about what she did to merit her Miss Universe expulsion were a factor in her dismissal.

"We categorically deny any version of events that aim to mislead public opinion about the reasons for this decision," the Miss Universe Panama organization stated.

"The Miss Panama Organization has remained committed to upholding the candidate's integrity. However, due to repeated breaches of contract by the candidate with us, we announce with deep regret the official dismissal of Miss Italy Mora from her official title as Miss Universe Panama 2024. The Miss Panama Organization reiterates the responsibility it has to the Miss Universe competition and with that same dedication, we will focus on the choosing of the next representative who will participate in Miss Universe 2025," the statement read.

Italy Mora's Response

While initially Mora had quietly accepted her Miss Universe expulsion, the Señorita Panama Organization's decision seems to have greatly upset her. On social media, she claimed she had spoken out about suffering "violated rights" and "extortion" prior to the decision.

"I stand firm in demanding a formal copy of my dismissal from Miss Universe International and the details of the sanctions applied. I am NOT the first Miss Universe to be dismissed for exposing my violated rights and the extortion we faced from national and international bodies," she wrote.

Though she did not go into detail, Mora hinted at a dispute and potential scandal within the beauty pageant. Her whereabouts have not been revealed. Some people in social media have speculated that she is back in Panamá, while others think she is still in Mexico fighting for her title.

What Will Happen to Panama in Miss Universe 2024?

With the upcoming crowning ceremony set for Saturday, November 16, and all contestants already gathered in Mexico City, Panama will not have a representative competing this year.

The 2024 Miss Universe events began on November 2 with the "Catrinas Gala," where contestants participated in the Mexican tradition of honoring the Day of the Dead.
