Africa Centres for Disease Control sounds alarm over mpox outbreak

Africa's main public health body has declared a continental emergency over an agressive strain of the mpox virus. Tens of thousands of people have been infected in an outbreak that began in Democratic Republic of Congo last September and has since spread to neighbouring countries. The head of CDC has made a "clarion call" for action to quash the outbreak.

Also in this edition, the airwaves in Senegal fall silent as journalists stage a media blackout - in protest against what they say is a crackdown on the free press.

And it's a golden homecoming for African Olympic stars, as fans gather to celebrate their medal heroes.
