Africa's main public health body has declared a continental emergency over an agressive strain of the mpox virus. Tens of thousands of people have been infected in an outbreak that began in Democratic Republic of Congo last September and has since spread to neighbouring countries. The head of CDC has made a "clarion call" for action to quash the outbreak.
