Afghan soldiers who sought refuge in the US dream of taking their country back

Monday marked the first anniversary of the fall of Kabul and the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. FRANCE 24's correspondents Matthieu Mabin and Fanny Allard spoke to some of the exiled Afghan soldiers now living in Washington DC. 

In August 2021, the Afghan army's swift collapse took the world by surprise, precipitating the fall of Kabul and sending tens of thousands of Afghan soldiers and their families into exile. On year on, many refuse to accept defeat and continue to hope that one day they will take their country back from the Taliban.
