Affordable Warmth scheme changes announced by Department for Communities

The Department for Communities has announced that changes will be made to the Affordable Warmth Scheme later this year.

It has said that from September, the scheme will be based on an application process and will be delivered by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

Prior to this the scheme had been run by the NIHE in partnership with local councils.

The Affordable Warmth Scheme has been aimed at homeowners and private renters who are most likely to be in severe to extreme fuel poverty and can offer grants up to £7,500, to improve thermal efficiency in a home through a range of insulation and heating measures.

Further details on accessing the scheme will be released during the summer.

Free comprehensive advice and support on how to save energy in the home and eligibility for help to improve energy efficiency on assistance is available from the NI Energy Advice Line Service on 0800 111 44 55.
