A housing association has laid the first bricks of 31 new affordable homes near Ayr.
Construction has begun on the West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) development in Greenan as part of a £5 million project in partnership with builders McTaggart & Mickel Homes.
The high-quality properties on the coast are set to be available for new tenants in early 2023.
The development will comprise of a mix of two and three-bedroom family homes and is the third phase of the WSHA’s affordable housing plans at Greenan Views.
Andrew Kubski, director of development and asset management at WSHA, said: “We are delighted to have begun work on our latest development in South Ayrshire which will provide high-quality affordable housing for the local community.
“It is fantastic to build on our established partnership with Mactaggart & Mickel to grow the community we have at Greenan.”
Scottish Government housing secretary Shona Robison added: “This development will support the local community and make a real and lasting difference to the lives of the new residents.
“These 31 new homes for social rent, supported by £3.157m of Scottish Government funding, are being built to a high standard and are due to be ready to welcome tenants in early 2023.
“We are proud of delivering 111,750 affordable homes since 2007 with over 78,000 for social rent.
“Progress has started towards our next ambitious target of delivering 110,000 affordable homes by 2032, of which 70 per cent will be for social rent and 10 per cent in remote, rural and island communities.”
