Affectionate dog who adores cuddles needs forever family to love him

An adorable dog with a "passion for life" is searching for a forever family to shower him in the love he deserves. Beau the two-year-old lurcher is currently being cared for by the animal welfare team at Dogs Trust Leeds, and hopes to find a new home for the New Year.

The affectionate fun-loving pooch was discovered as a stray back in February 2021 and has been looking for a permanent place to live ever since. Amanda Sands, manager at Leeds, told the Mirror : "Beau is a beautiful, fun, affectionate and energetic dog who loves training and is bursting with potential.

Dogs Trust staff are hopeful 2023 will be the year for him (Dogs Trust)

"He had a difficult start in life, but we know with patient owners who can help him learn all the life skills he missed out on developing as a young pup, he will be a wonderful canine companion."

Beau would like to be the only pet in his new home and will need a secure garden with high fences so he can enjoy running around as well as relaxing.

He doesn't like to be left home alone so he will need his new owners to be around all the time, but once he has settled and understands he has a new family, his time alone could be gradually built up.

He can live with children aged 16 and over but he would like his home to have few visitors as he can become anxious when meeting new people.

Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity, cares for around 14,000 dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes every year at its 22 rehoming centres.

But this year has been an exceptional one with the charity receiving a record number of calls from people having to face the heart-breaking decision to hand over their dog.

The charity is urging people to remember that 'A dog is for life, not just for Christmas' and is hoping that if people are considering welcoming a dog into their lives, they choose to adopt a homeless hound.

Operations director Adam Clowes says: "We will make sure that every dog in our care has a wonderful Christmas but unfortunately due to the increasing costs of everyday living, many dog owners are currently having to make very difficult decisions when it comes to caring for their dog.

"Our kennels are at capacity and we are concerned that as fewer people can afford to welcome a dog into their life, we will face a housing crisis for dogs in the coming months, which is a tragedy for both dogs and owners.

"We understand the pressures people are facing but we would encourage anyone that is looking for a four-legged friend to share their life with, to consider adopting one of our gorgeous dogs and give a dog in need another chance to be happy at the heart of a loving home."

If you think you could give Beau a new home this New Year, visit his rehoming page on Dogs Trust's website.
