AFC Championship: Chiefs Advance, Improve Odds For 3-Peat

The Kansas City Chiefs rested all their key starters in week 18 as they clinched a first-round bye.

With two weeks off, Kansas City’s offense got off to a slow start. Despite Houston receiving the ball to begin the game and fumbling the kickoff, which was recovered by the Chiefs at the Houston 26-yard line, they had to settle for a field goal and did not gain a yard. They settled for two field goals in the first quarter. Kansas City’s offense finally broke through with a Kareem Hunt one-yard touchdown with 4:36 left in the second quarter, which gave the Chiefs a 13-3 lead. The Chiefs were shutout in the third quarter and the score was 13-12 after three quarters as the Texans missed an extra point. Mahomes struck in the fourth quarter and threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce to give the Chiefs a 20-12 lead. Kansas City added a field goal with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter to go up 23-12. Houston got another two points by Kansas City’s punter running out of bounds to waste time. The Chiefs won 23-14.

While Mahomes was himself in the fourth quarter, the Texans defense played well. Kansas City’s defense was better. The Chiefs sacked C.J. Stroud a whopping eight times.

Another advantage the Chiefs had was in penalties. Houston was flagged eight times for 82 yards, while the Chiefs were flagged four times for just 29 yards.

Houston played the Chiefs tough and outgained them while not turning the ball over. Still, it was not enough.

Below, we discuss the Chiefs trying to make history and win their third straight Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs Looking To Make History With Three Straight Super Bowl Wins

Once again, the Kansas City Chiefs will play in the AFC Championship game. This seems to be a yearly tradition with Mahomes and Andy Reid,

They have their sights set on winning a third straight Super Bowl, something no team has ever done.

Their chances just went up last night. Not only did they win, but the Detroit Lions, who were the favorites to win the Super Bowl got knocked out.

Still, three realistic teams stand in the way of the Chiefs. The Bills, Ravens, and Eagles present the biggest challenge to Kansas City. Buffalo and Baltimore square off in the Divisional round. The winner will go to Kansas City for the AFC Championship game.

With Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and a strong defense, it is difficult to bet against the Chiefs.
