An education centre who kick start careers in the aerospace sector has been named as a sponsor for Ayr’s new-look air show.
South Ayrshire Council has welcomed Ayrshire College as a sponsor for this September’s International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight.
The college - which offers a variety of courses that put students on the right path to a potential career in the aerospace industry - has pledged both a financial contribution and in-kind support, with students set to volunteer across a range of tasks during the three-day event.
The festival, which will run from Friday 8 – Sunday, September 10, will see an impressive range of aerial displays take to the skies over Ayr shorefront.
The sponsorship announcement comes hot on the heels of the latest aircraft display announcement that pilot Peter Davies in his Calidus Autogyro is on the bill at this year’s event.
The lightweight aircraft, which is part aeroplane and part helicopter, is unique in that its rotor blades are not powered by an engine but are actually spun by the passing wind as the autogyro moves through the air.
Peter will impress as he shows off his amazing autogyro piloting skills - even waving at the crowds on the Low Green below.
Also on the bill are; The Red Arrows, Airborne Pyrotechnics, The Starlings Aerobatic Display Team, a Typhoon jet and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Angela Cox, Principal and Chief Executive of Ayrshire College, said the college is delighted to be listed as a major sponsor of the event as Ayrshire College “has a proud history in providing the skilled workforce for the Aerospace Sector across Ayrshire and beyond.”
She added: “This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the air show, to showcase how Ayrshire College is working with industry to provide the future skills required for Aerospace and celebrate a sector that is so important to the economy of Ayrshire.”
Councillor Brian Connolly, the council’s spokesperson Sport and Leisure, said: “Ayrshire College’s sponsorship highlights that local organisations, businesses and people want to play a part and help bring a fantastic family event to South Ayrshire.”
Councillor Alec Clark, spokesperson for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, said: “The assistance Ayrshire College students will provide at the event will be invaluable and I’m delighted to welcome them on board!”
Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey, added: “Ayrshire College plays a key role in supporting people to realise their potential in the aerospace sector, so I’m delighted to see them become a sponsor of the new air show.
“We’re looking forward to working with college staff and students in the run up to and during the event.”
