Mexican airline Aeromexico was recognized for having the best record for on-time arrivals in 2024, according to a recent annual ranking. With nearly 87% of its flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, Aeromexico topped the list globally. Following closely behind was Saudia, the flagship carrier of Saudi Arabia, with an on-time performance rate of just over 86%.
Despite facing challenges such as severe weather patterns and a technology outage during the summer, airlines like Delta Air Lines managed to excel in on-time performance. Delta, based in Atlanta, achieved an on-time rate of more than 83%, securing the third spot worldwide. Other U.S. carriers like United Airlines and Alaska Airlines also performed well, with on-time ratings of nearly 81% and just over 79%, respectively.
On the other end of the spectrum, Canadian airlines like WestJet and Air Canada, along with Denver-based Frontier, had on-time ratings below 72%. However, regional winners such as Japan Airlines, Iberia Express from Spain, Copa Airlines in Panama, and FlySafair in South Africa were recognized for their punctuality.
When it came to airport departures, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, stood out as the best performer in 2024. Nearly 87% of flights from this airport took off within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru, and Mexico City's Benito Juárez International Airport followed closely with departure records of over 84%.
Despite facing disruptions from a technology outage, Delta Air Lines managed to maintain its top spot among U.S. airlines. The airline filed a lawsuit against cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike, claiming a significant financial loss due to the outage. CrowdStrike, in response, highlighted that other airlines were able to recover more swiftly from the incident.
