Aerials qualifying cancelled for the night

Poor conditions have delayed the start of freestyle aerial qualifying by 30 minutes (AAP)

Qualification in the Olympic aerials has been cancelled for the night due to poor visibility and wind at the competition venue.

Australians Laura Peel, Danielle Scott and Gabi Ash are looking to make the finals.

Heavy snow has been falling at the Genting Snow Park venue for much of the day, while there is swirling wind that put qualification for the high-risk sport on hold for 30 minutes before it was decided to cancel it altogether.

It was due to start at 10pm AEDT.

It's likely it will now be held as a one-day event starting at 6pm AEDT on Monday, rather than over the two nights as scheduled.

Poor weather is a worst-case scenario for the Australians, with Peel and Scott also battling awful conditions four years ago in PyeongChang.

That led to one of the lowest scoring finals in history.

The high wind wrecked Australia's hopes of securing an aerials medal at a fifth successive Games, with Peel ending up fifth and Scott missing the medal round.

The pair are among the gold-medal favourites in Beijing, particularly world champion Peel, while Ash is making her debut.
