Aer Lingus launches three new routes from Dublin Airport to the Mediterranean and popular Greek island

Aer Lingus has added three new popular European holiday destinations that will be travelling from Dublin Airport this summer.

The Irish airline is set to soon begin flights to Olbia which is located on the Italian island of Sardinia and the Greek island of Kos from May 2, as well as flights to Brindisi in Italy from May 27, reports the Irish Mirror. In recent years Italy and Greece have been popular hotspots for tourists from Ireland.

Aer Lingus has confirmed that the three new routes are among a total of 53 European destinations taking off from Ireland as part of the Aer Lingus 2023 summer schedule.

Susanne Carberry, Chief Customer Officer with Aer Lingus said there is great excitement for the inaugural flights to the two new Italian destinations and another Greek island in May. She said: "As was the case last year we are seeing huge demand for sun travel this summer, particularly our Mediterranean destinations, with many planning their holiday that little bit earlier than before."

The island of Sardinia is known for its fantastic cuisine including fresh seafood, homemade pasta and traditional cheeses such as pecorino sardo specialties in the region. It's also known for being a favourite of Hollywood A-listers George Clooney, Elton John, Irina Shayk and more who have holidayed on the beautiful island.

Olbia is described as a port and airport town in the north-eastern corner of the island, and it's well-known for its sandy beaches.

Meanwhile, Brindisi is a picturesque city in the Puglia region of Italy, known as a haven for authentic Italian cuisine. The Greek island of Kos is most famous with tourists for its white sandy beaches including Lambi beach, and its crystal-clear Mediterranean water, with popular activities including snorkelling.

Ms Carberry added that Aer Lingus's "largest every largest ever transatlantic programme of 2.25 million seats" is proving popular with those wanting to travel further abroad than Europe this summer. Meanwhile, Aer Lingus is also set to begin flying to Cleveland in Ohio from May 15 after adding 16 north American destinations.

Ms Carberry said: "We will also begin flying to Cleveland, Ohio in May (19) as part of the 16 North American destinations we will serve this year so there is lots of look forward to this summer."
