Aer Lingus flight forced to land sideways lashed by 70mph Storm Dudley at Bristol Airport

Aer Lingus pilots on four training flights from Exeter had a baptism of fire as they each had to battle Storm Dudley to land at Bristol Airport.

Lashed by fierce winds the pilots faced a stern test as they attempted to land the turboprop planes safely across a windswept runway near the South West coast on Thursday afternoon

The skilful Aer Lingus pilots on scheduled training flights had to wrestle against the fierce 70mph winds to bring the turboprop planes to a safe landing in extremely difficult conditions.

One video captures a pilot having to practically land sideways in order to touchdown on the runway around 2pm on February 17.

The two minute film shows the ATR72-600 turboprop make a steep landing at a tight angle and land safely. Fortunately no passengers were on board the flights which took off from Exeter Airport.
