One of the best adventure playgrounds in the UK is just 25 minutes from Bristol. The beautiful National Trust estate of Tyntesfield, which sits on the border of Bristol and North Somerset, received the accolade from The Times .
The paper put together a list of what it deemed to be the UK's seven best such attractions, in time for the Easter break. Tyntesfield was at number seven on the list. It was described as being suitable for all ages.
The Times said: “This ornate gothic house may be stuffed with over 72,000 objects but the kids will be most excited by the 540 acres of grounds. The den-building village in the woods will generate the loudest shrieks, while littler ones can take over the Home Farm courtyard with its big tractor to climb up and slides to whizz down.”

Tyntesfield has three play areas on site in Wraxall. In the Home Farm courtyard, there’s the farm play area, with a big tractor to climb up, and slides to slide down. For bigger kids, there’s the orchard play area by Tyntesfield’s Pavilion Café at the lower end of the estate, where they can play under the watchful eye of parents. For a real outdoors escape, the woodland play area features a den-building village and sculpture trail.
The site, which is a 25-minute drive away from Bristol, was purchased by the National Trust just over 20 years ago – so if you’re a member, access and parking is free. If you’re not a member, you can find the current prices and opening times on the National Trust website.
There is also a bus from Bristol bus station that stops at Tyntesfield - the X6 service goes from Bristol to Clevedon and should take 23 minutes to the National Trust estate if the traffic is kind.
