Advancements in aircraft design and seat safety played a crucial role in preventing a potentially catastrophic outcome during the recent Delta Air Lines plane crash at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Despite the harrowing nature of the incident, with the aircraft ending up upside down on the runway, a significant number of passengers managed to survive.
According to aviation safety expert David Soucie, who is a former Federal Aviation Administration safety inspector, the crash could have been far more devastating if not for the improved safety measures implemented in modern aircraft. Soucie highlighted the fact that despite numerous things going wrong during the incident, a total of 80 individuals were able to walk away from the crash.
The comparison drawn by Soucie to a tragic 1987 accident in Denver, where 28 lives were lost due to a similar aircraft flip, underscored the importance of advancements in seat safety and overall aircraft design. The analyst emphasized that the stronger and more secure seats in modern aircraft made a significant difference in ensuring the survival of passengers.
