Adrian Newey has revealed he has no plans to retire after his Red Bull exit.
The technical mastermind will be free to join another team next spring, after ending a near two-decade-long association with the current Formula One frontrunners.
Teams are queuing up for the services of the 65-year-old, and speaking about his future for the first time, Newey said: “To walk away from Red Bull was a very hard decision, but it was one I needed to take for a whole host of reasons.
“They had been my family. I feel a bit tired at the moment but at some point I’ll probably go again.”
Long-time suitors Ferrari remain favourites for the Briton’s signature, and it is believed that provisional talks have been held.
But since announcing his Red Bull exit, a host of F1 teams have entered the fray to snap him up.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown said “never say never”, while Williams’ James Vowles revealed he had had “a light conversation” with Newey. Aston Martin have tabled an offer, which Newey is reportedly not keen on.
Newey said he had never really thought about retiring, using the example of his father who “lost his mojo a bit” and the likes of Bernie Ecclestone, still working into his 90s, as inspiration.
