Adorable Holyrood Dog of the Year event makes a comeback in Edinburgh

Together with their four-legged companions, dog-loving MSPs will once again compete for the Holyrood Dog of the Year award at the Scottish Parliament Gardens.

The popular and well-loved event organised by Dogs Trust and The Kennel Club is set to come back to the capital on May 9 and promises a day of fun and cheer.

Striving to promote responsible pet ownership, the two of the UK's largest dog welfare organisations are hoping to encourage open dialogue on the issue with MSPs having the opportunity to meet with dog welfare experts from both - Dogs Trust and The Kennel Club.

The Holyrood Dog of the Year representatives said: "The event aims to highlight the unique role dogs play in society and provide MSPs with the opportunity to raise any critical canine issues that strike a chord with them."

Up to 15 participants are expected to take part in the competition - with those MSPs who don't own a dog having an option to enrol with one of the kennel's dogs looking for a permanent home.

The award winner will have to strive in several categories, with both - the judges and the public - having their say. All the MSPs wishing to participate will send their CVs to The Kennel Club and Dogs Trust before the event. The CVs will then be put on The Kennel Club website, where the public will have a chance to vote for their favourites.

On an actual day, the competitors will have a chance to showcase their talents, skills and - most importantly- relationships with their dogs. Then, the event's experienced judges will assess those criteria.

The information about the entrants and a chance to vote on the 'pawblic vote' will be available here closer to the event.
