An adorable baby fox has been saved by firefighters in west London after becoming trapped in a cavity wall.

The “distressed” fox cub, named Ian after a soon-to-be retiring colleague, was rescued by fire crews after it was stuck inside a wall in Queensway Market, Kensington.

Once saved, emergency workers made the choice to leave the small animal in a box in hopes of its mother returning.

Kensington Blue Watch Manager Scott Magdalani said:“The baby fox had somehow become trapped in the wall cavity of a ground floor shop.

“We used a saw to cut a hole in the wall and released him safely. We decided to call him Ian after Firefighter Ian Broomfield who is retiring in a few days’ time.

“The RSPCA advised us to leave Ian in a box with some water as his mother will be most likely come back and look for him.

“I went back after work and saw that the box had gone. I rang an emergency vet to see if anyone had taken Ian into them. They said no and it was most likely that the mother had come back from him just as the RSPCA had said.”

The London Fire Brigade have advised if you see an animal in distress, call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
