Adorable five-month-old rescue puppy desperate for cuddles needs home

At only five months old, little Bertie has a strong attachment to humans.

The crossbreed can become jealous when other dogs spend time with "his people" because he wants 'all the cuddles to himself'.

Currently being housed at Oakwood Dog Rescue in Hull, the workers have begun a search for Bertie's new owner.

A spokeswoman said: "Bertie is a lovable and stunning boy that cannot wait to find his forever home.

"He can be a bit shy meeting new people but then does enjoy a cuddle and tickle.

"He has been known to bark at other dogs or tell them off for coming close to 'his' people."

Little Bertie has spent the last month in the veterinary clinic at Oakwood Dog Rescue recovering after being recused from Romania.

"Pups can die very quickly in Romania as they are more susceptible to illness or from malnutrition and dog attacks," said the spokesperson.

"This has impacted him a little as Bertie is wary of meeting other dogs and favours people.

"He will require dog socialisation sessions to prevent this from becoming an issue as an adult dog."

While the rescue has been introducing Bertie to other dogs to improve his socialisation skills, the little pup is still unsure on how to behave around them.

The spokeswoman added: "He doesn't have much confidence. His owners will need to work with Bertie at training classes to help to build up his confidence around other dogs.

"We are working with Bertie, but we are unsure whether he will cope with another dog in the home at the moment.

"We do not want the current dog in the home to be pushed out or told off by Bertie if they want to be around their owner."

Bertie loves cuddling up with people and is known to climb up people's shoulders for a snuggle.

"This is very adorable but his owner will need to ensure that Bertie does have time alone to prevent him struggling to be left home alone in future," said the spokeswoman.

"Bertie is sweet and loving and had the potential to be a brilliant family dog with the right training.

"He displays typical puppy behaviours, such as play biting, jumping up and chewing – just like any other puppy which will all need management in a home.

"Taking on a puppy can be hard work, so anyone interested will need to be prepared for the level of work and training involved."

Bertie, who is expected to be a medium to large dog when fully grown, can live with children over aged 10. He has not been tested with cats.
