Ten pooches saved from a dog meat farm in South Korea are looking forward to their first Christmas with UK families.
Jindo breeds Baloo, Tsuki, Bunty, Jinsoo, Lumi, Molly, Basil, Moby, Cooper and Yuki were among 65 dogs rescued by Humane Society International and local group LIFE.
Chimney Farm International Dog Rescue in Hampshire found them owners after they arrived in April.
Sangkyung Lee, of HSI Korea, said: “If we had not been able to rescue them, they’d probably all have been killed and eaten by now.”
Sarah Edwards, of Endon, Staffs, adopted Millie in a previous HSI rescue and has now taken in Yuki.
She said: “Yuki completed my little family and I cannot wait for him to have his first Christmas with us. Millie and Yuki are everything I could ever wish for under my tree.”
Cooper’s owner Dave Ostler, from Farnborough, Hants, said: “He has really come out of his shell.”
And Elaine Muggerridge, of Hook, Hants, said Bunty is “gaining confidence”.
The farm the dogs were on has now closed after reaching an agreement with HSI Korea, which has shut 17 others and saved 2,500 dogs.
Claire Bass, of HSI UK, said: “Having been to these miserable dog meat farms, I know just how depressing and awful they are.”
Polls show 84% of South Koreans do not eat dog meat and 60% back a ban. Yet 1.5 million are still kept on thousands of farms there.
