Adorable dog who loves a 'real good ear scratch' desperately searches for home

He has nothing but love to give - but is still searching for somebody special to give it to.

German shepherd Hades has been taken into the RSPCA's care because his previous owner could no longer care for him.

The seven-year-old pooch has become a favourite amongst staff at RSPCA Essex South, Southend and District Branch - but despite this, they're ready to watch him leave with his forever family.

A statement reads: "If you are looking for a loyal German Shepherd companion then Hades is the dog for you, he will love to spend quality time with you watching films on the sofa, going for walks in nature or a game of football in the garden.

"Hades loves a head stroke and gentle fuss behind his ears, if you have that extra special touch you will see his eyes starting to glaze over and he will lean lazily into you for more."

He can become overwhelmed by the world around him (RSPCA)

Hades needs a "calm, patient home" because he can become overwhelmed by the world around him. He would prefer to be the only pet in the home.

"He is always keen to go for walks and explore new exciting quiet places, this chap will need his new adopter to have strong arms to hold him, as often things are just too much fun and he needs to get to whatever it is as quickly as possible," the statement adds.

"Hades is a true gent and a real fuss pot and enjoys any attention he can get, whether its for a good groom, fun walks or cuddles, where he shows his cat like tendencies of leaning against your legs for a real good ear scratch."

The RSPCA is urging people to adopt an animal in need rather than turning to breeders when wanting to welcome a pet into their family.

"While it may be easy to find animals on the internet or even spend hundreds on an expensive breeder, you could risk heartache or huge vet's bills if you don't do your homework," a statement reads.

"By adopting and not shopping you'll also feel good for doing good - by giving an animal a second chance at life in a loving home!

"Plus, adopting from us means that you can relax knowing that all our animals are healthy, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

"As with all the animals we rehome, we'll pass on the details of their behaviour and veterinary treatment. You'll likely know more about your rescue animal's history than if you were to buy an animal online!

"We've taken the time to get to know each animal as an individual, to understand their likes and dislikes and to prepare them for life in a loving family, which means there are less likely to be nasty surprises when you get home!

"When you adopt a cat or a dog from one of our centres, you'll also get four weeks free pet insurance, which is vital to protect your pet's future as well as your bank balance! There's so much to gain from rescuing an animal in need."

If you're interested in rehoming Hades, or any other dogs at RSPCA Essex South, Southend and District Branch, email their teams via dogs@rspcaessexsouth.org.uk.

Their centre is open Monday to Friday, from 10am to 4pm.
