Adorable dog partially blinded after being shot with gun pellets needs new home

He was callously shot with gun pellets leaving him partially sighted - but still has a thirst for life.

Poor Perdigon is searching for an owner who will show him the world doesn't have to be a scary place.

The three-year-old dog, who is up for adoption with Blind Dog Rescue UK, has been subjected to the 'worst of humanity'.

A spokesperson said: "When Perdigon was found he was unable to lift his head and in a lot of pain. The vet found shotgun pellets in his neck and face.

"The fragments that were causing the most pain were removed and the infection treated. Some fragments were not removed due to the location in his body.

"His right eye has been damaged, most likely from the shotgun pellets. He does not have vision in this eye."

When little Perdigon visits the vets to be neutered, they will decide whether to remove his damaged eye.

Despite everything he has been through, Perdigon has been described as a "very friendly boy" who loves spending time with people.

"He wants to be by your side when you are moving around and to sleep next to you when you are sitting," said the spokesperson.

"He prefers people to other dogs, but has lived with a dominant female dog with no problems.

"He is starting to be more playful as he adjust to vision in one eye.

He is currently living in a rescue in Spain (Blind Dog Rescue UK)

"He can get overwhelmed with too many dogs, especially if they jump on him. His neck was injured with shotgun pellets and it was sore at times.

"He has no pain now but he doesn't like being pulled by the neck so would be better wearing a harness."

Perdigon is currently living in a rescue in Spain but is ready to fly to the UK once a family is found.

Blind Dog Rescue UK works to rehome blind and partially sighted dogs who have been subjected to the “worst of humanity yet still have an astonishing capacity to adapt, love and become perfect ambassadors for blind dogs everywhere”.

Many of the dogs in their care have been victims of abuse, neglect, disease or trauma - and struggle to survive in shelters.

A Blind Dog Rescue UK statement reads: “It is incredibly difficult for sighted dogs to survive any length of time in these shelters let alone blind or partially sighted dogs.

“We need to get to these dogs quickly and secure their immediate release and treatment.

“These dogs may have been deliberately blinded, involved in road traffic accidents or long term sufferers of painful conditions such as glaucoma.

“They need veterinary care and to be given the safety and comfort of a foster home in which to start healing.

“Here they are given love and affection and a warm bed - possibly the first they will have experienced in their lifetimes.

"At this point, we are able to start assessing and promoting these wonderful dogs for forever homes."
