Adnan Januzaj 'wanted by West Ham' as David Moyes eyes reunion with ex-Man Utd ace

West Ham manager David Moyes is reportedly interested in signing Adnan Januzaj.

The Belgium international, 27, will leave Real Sociedad when his contract expires later this month. He scored five goals and provided three assists for the Spanish side last season, helping them finish sixth in La Liga and qualify for next season's Europa League.

Januzaj famously burst onto the scene at Manchester United during the 2013-14 season, when Moyes was briefly in charge, scoring five goals and providing eight assists in 38 games. It was an awful season for United fans as they finished seventh in the Premier League.

That was the first campaign after Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. Moyes was hired to maintain United's dominance in English football - with Ferguson winning 13 Premier League titles at Old Trafford - but was sacked in April amid a calamitous title defence.

Since Moyes' exit, United have said goodbye to another four managers (minimum 20 games). Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick all failed to deliver sustained success - the primary goal for new boss Erik ten Hag.

Januzaj was tipped to succeed at Old Trafford after his debut campaign. He was given Ryan Giggs' famous No. 11 shirt ahead of the 2014-15 term but couldn't nail down a starting place under Van Gaal - playing just 18 Premier League games that season.

The winger went on to spend time on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland - playing under Moyes at the latter club - before rebuilding his career at Sociedad. His form during the 2017-18 campaign earned him a spot in Belgium's World Cup squad that summer.

Yet his time at Sociedad is now over and, according to Diario de Sevilla, via Sport Witness, West Ham are one of several teams interested in signing Januzaj. Real Betis and Napoli are also believed to be considering offering the 15-cap international a deal.

West Ham can offer Januzaj Europa Conference League football, while Betis will be competing in the Europa League next term. Napoli are the only one of the three clubs that can offer Champions League football after finishing third in Serie A last season.

"I gave Wayne Rooney his Premier League debut, and Ross Barkley, and Adnan is certainly up there with those players in terms of quality," said Moyes after giving Januzaj his United debut nine years ago.

"As far as debuts go, I would be surprised if even the great players in United's past have shown such promise on day one. It wasn't just the two goals, his whole game was outstanding. We know we've got a really special talent, but we'll keep his feet on the ground.

"He's going to be a top, top player but I had him in the reserves last week. He's a very humble boy, a pleasure to work with. I thought this was the right time to play him, because he's just been so good."
