Adidas has launched a probe into the sale of fake Scotland tops after a Daily Record investigation revealed fans were snapping them up for just £10.
Our investigation revealed thousands had bought dud replicas of the 150th Anniversary jerseys - inspired by the kit worn by the Scotland team in the first match against England in 1872 - after the official kits were released last week.
The genuine dark blue tops retail at £70 for kids and £90 for adults but bootleggers have been selling identical replicas for as little as £10 on websites such as DHgate and AliExpress.
However, last night AliExpress promised to remove its stock of Scotland tops from sale - as a direct result of the Record investigation.
The cut-price counterfeits, which come with free shipping, allowed a family of four to get a strip each delivered to their door for less than £50. Listings reveal that many of the tops come from the Far East, with China and Thailand named as the country of origin.
The Adidas probe will focus on where the counterfeit jerseys are being manufactured.
A spokesperson for Adidas said: "Our brand protection team will be investigating this matter as we take counterfeit products very seriously.
"As always we work hard to address any incidents of counterfeiting to make sure fans are always getting genuine adidas products that have been extensively tested and created using premium materials. We would always recommend to purchase through adidas destinations or through our trusted retail partners."
A spokesman for China-based AliExpress said: “Although we do not take custody of the goods being sold, we take product compliance very seriously and have in place related policies that all our third-party sellers must comply with.
"Following an internal review, the items the Daily Record flagged have been removed. We welcome information provided by you.”
DHgate did not respond to requests for comment.
