Adele releases comeback single Easy On Me and fans are emotionally wrecked – 28 top reactions

Get your boxes of tissues on standby... Adele is back with her new song Easy On Me and, true to her style, it’s a very emotional one.

The piano ballad is apparently directly addressing her ex-husband Simon Konecki and her nine-year-old son Angelo, while explaining why she left her marriage.

Shot in black-and-white at the beginning, the music video, which was filmed in Quebec, Canada last month, features Adele taking a last look around an empty house before picking up her suitcase, putting on sunglasses and leaving.

She then has a conversation on the phone before getting into her car and driving off, passing a “sold” sign outside what was her family home.

Go easy on me, baby, Adele sings as the piano comes in while she drives past a newly married couple.

I was still a child, didn’t get the chance to feel the world around me, I had no time to choose what I chose to do.

Later, she appears to address the reasons for the break-up: You can’t deny how hard I tried, I changed who I was to put you both first but now I give up.

As she sings the chorus again, the black and white video begins to change to colour and a vibrant red colour scheme emerges – seemingly representing the life transition she’s making.

She adds: I had good intentions, and I had these hopes, but I know it now, it probably doesn’t even show.

Although the song pulls on the heartstrings, the video ends on a less serious note, with a behind-the-scenes clip showing Adele having a laugh while being blown by a wind machine. The music video has already garnered over 15 million views since it was released at midnight on October 15.

Fans of the singer have taken to social media to share their feelings about the first new Adele song in six years – and have joked that the singer didn’t go easy on them with her comeback track.

While fans emotionally recover from Easy On Me, many also shared some more funny light-hearted memes in reaction to the impact that Adele’s new song had had on them.

Of course, fellow celebrities were out in full force to share their support for Adele’s new song.

Lil Nas X said the song was “so good” and added in his tweet: “It’s so crazy to think the last time Adele released new music I was sitting on stan Twitter. I feel like i’m 15 again.”

Meanwhile, many were sharing the track on their Instagram stories.

Drake shared a picture of Adele to his story and wrote: “One of my best friends in the world just dropped a single.”

Niall Horan shared how he was listening to the single on Spotify, and included a heart emoji, and rapper Busta Rhymes reshared along with several flame emojis in approval.

Clueless star Alicia Silverstone was ready to feel every emotion and jokingly shared her preparations for listening to Easy On Me, which included a tipple.

Normani also shared some love for the Someone Like You singer.

And stand-up comedian Marc Maron couldn’t deny his love for Adele either.

Adele teamed up with director Xavier Dolan, who previously shot her last comeback music video Hello, and the new music video was even filmed at the same house as the 2015 video was.

Therefore, people couldn’t help but compare the two and also noted how the visuals for Easy On Me pay homage to the Rolling in the Deep music video where Adele sits on a chair and belts out the song.

Adele announced on social media on October 14 that her new album will be released next month,

“I was certainly nowhere near where I’d hope to be when I first started it nearly three years ago. Quite the opposite actually,” she explains in her post.

“I’ve learned a lot of blistering home truths about myself along the way. I’ve shed many layers but also wrapped myself in new ones. And so, I’m finally ready to put this album out.”

Her fourth studio album 30 will be released on November 19.
