Adele' s surprise appearance at the BRIT Awards on Tuesday night had literally everybody talking.
It was only last week that the 33-year-old Hello hit-maker confirmed that she'd be flying across the pond to perform at the biggest music event in the UK after she was forced to postpone her Las Vegas shows just a few weeks earlier.
While the Tottenham-born singer didn't mention a word of the drama during the ceremony at London's O2 Arena, body language expert and author Judi James suggested that the star tried hard to hide her real feelings as she put on a blasé act.
It was only when she dedicated her third award for Best Album of the Year to her ex-husband and son that her 'suppressed' feelings came flooding out as she tearfully gushed over their never-ending support.
Weighing in on Adele's body language, Judi shared: "It was cheers not boos for Adele tonight, whose body language suggested mild surprise - but without making her look unduly worried or anxious about the response to her appearance.
"Her small shoulder-shrug suggested surprise at her first award and she followed it up with two huge mouth shrugs as she walked up to the stage, although a partly-concealed grin suggested she was more delighted than she was letting on."
The body language expert went on to suggest that Adele's on-stage wave to cheering fans was a 'small sign of humility' after she was forced to cancel her hotly-anticipated Las Vegas shows.
"Her ‘baby wave’ to the fans was one small sign of humility and attempt to bond but she made no mention of her recent dramas, instead telling everyone that she ‘loved coming home’.
"Sitting atop a piano her song was full of angry and defiant facial expressions as she sang lines about stopping ‘being somebody else’.
"There were more shrugs of calm surprise when she got artist of the year but they made her look philosophical and quietly pleased about the awards rather than elated or over-excited.
"Again ignoring the recent dramas Adele reassured the crowd that ‘I love being an artist’, even giving advice to new artists."
Judi then shared some insight into Adele's emotional tribute to ex-husband Simon Konecki and their son, Angelo, 9.
Accepting her third award of the night, the tearful singer gushed: "I'd like to dedicate this award to my son, and to Simon, to his dad. My son has been so patient and so gracious."
Judi said: "The only emotional outburst came when she got album of the year and her face became tearful and her voice started cracking as she mentioned ‘my son’, - puffing with what looked like a release of suppressed tension but otherwise sounding and looking defiant with her signature down-to-earth style."
Following Adele's stellar performance of her much-loved song I Drink Wine, fans have declared the song as 'the best BRITs performance in history'.
